Marquis Tree Service’s Story
Marquis Tree Service was founded by John Marquis in 1990 and started as a lawn-cutting service out of the back of a station wagon. After attending Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts and earning a degree in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, John focused his attention on turning Marquis into a full-service tree care businesses. 30 years later, Marquis is now over 50 employees (some who have been with the company over 15 years) and one of Boston’s largest providers.
John’s Go-Forward Role
John is remaining on to continue leading the business but has been able to pass of many of his day-to-day leadership responsibility to his #2. Working in closer partnership with Canopy’s
Regional President, John is focused on Marquis’ growth in the Boston market and long-range strategic planning. Partnering with Canopy has also allowed John to spend more time with his family and on his passions such as the outdoors and traveling.
Marquis Tree Service’s Growth Story
Over the course of the first month of Marquis Tree Service’s partnership with Canopy, the business has been able to recognize revenue growth of 10%, acquire a well-known local business to expand its market coverage, and stand-up its own PHC department. Working closely with Canopy’s Regional President and Director of PHC growth, Marquis is now running multiple PHC crews to serve North Boston’s residential market.
